Greenstream, the gas pipeline that links Libya to Italy was inagurated on the 7^th of october 2004. The ceremony took place at the Mellitah processing and compression station 85 km far from Tripoli. Col. Muammar Gheddafi and Silvio Berlusconi, Italian Prime Minister, attended the ceremony along with Abdallah Badri, NOC Chairman and Vittorio Mincato, Eni's Chief Executive.
Greenstream is 520 km long and connects Mellitah to Gela in Sicily crossing the Mediterranean sea. It was laid at a depth which reach 1,127 metres and it will carry 8 billion cubic metres of gas per year.
